Studio 51

This is the place where I mainly studied at the St. Petersburg State Theatre Arts Academy. Studio 51 as itself is almost like a small theatre. It has the main room for work and moving around, place for audience, the backstage, dressing room, small lounge area (with a little bed!), lots of costumes, student art & pictures and most of all warm atmosphere.

Tässä studiossa opiskelin pääasiallisesti Pietarin teatteriakatemiassa. Studio 51 on kuin pieni teatteri. Siellä on iso sali, katsomo, takahuone, pukuhuone, pikkuinen oleskelutila (ja pieni sänky!), paljon vaatteita, opiskelijoiden omia maalauksia ja kuvia sekä tietenkin lämmin tunnelma.

Funny thing is that this studio is one of the many studios in the academy. 

I only had a change to visit some of them. This one is my favorite.

Hassua, että tää studio on vaan yksi monista muista akatemian studioista. 

Sain nähdä muutaman muun studion, mutta tää on kuitenkin mun ehdoton suosikki.

Goodbye St.Petersburg

Couple weeks ago in Peterhof

It’s my time to leave Russia for now. Friday was the last day of my studies at the Theatre Academy. I would have loved to stay and learn more but I'm also so pleased with everything I've already learned in such a short amount of time.

Nyt on aika palata kotiin. Opinnot teatteriakatemialla päätty perjantaina. Olis ihanaa jäädä vielä oppimaan lisää, mutta oon kuitenkin tosi tyytyväinen kaikkeen, mitä oon tässä kuudessa viikossa oppinut.

I will certainly miss my amazing and wise teachers. I've never had such a great learning experiences before and it’s thanks to them. I have so many fun stories to take back home with me. One time on a dance class my 70-year-old dance professor wanted to take me on his shoulders and when I sat there he started to run around in the class room like 5-year-old. 

I loved it!

Mulle tulee varmasti tosi kova ikävä kaikkia uskomattoman viisaita opettajia. En oo koskaan saanu näin hyvää opetusta. Mulla on niin monta hauskaa tarinaa kotiin vietävänä. Kerran tanssitunnilla mun 70-vuotias tanssinopettaja otti mut istumaan sen olkapäille ja lähti juoksemaan ympäri salia kuin pikkupoika. Se oli ihanaa!

Friday was a great day. 
I celebrated with my fellow students all the accomplishments we've made together.

Perjantai oli hyvä päivä. 
Mentiin illalla opiskelukavereiden kanssa juhlimaan meijän yhteisiä saavutuksia.

Yesterday I enjoyed the atmosphere of this beautiful city for the last time (for now, because I’ll be back!). Even though I will be home soon I still have things to write about my time in St. Petersburg.

Eilen nautiskelin viimeistä kertaa Pietarin ihanasta kaupunkitunnelmasta. (Aion kyllä tulla tänne takas tulevaisuudessa) Vaikka oonkin ihan pian taas Suomessa, mulla on vielä kerrottavaa mun seikkailuista täällä.

Time flies! There’s less than one week left here in St. Petersburg. I had a great start for the week - a super active monday. I felt energetic the whole day. I have achieved great things here so yesterday night I celebrated my freedom as an actor 
and the fact that I’ve learned so much by goofing around.

Aika rientää! Enää alle viikko jäljellä täällä Pietarissa. Tää viikko alkoi erittäin energisellä maanantailla. Oon saavuttanu hienoja juttuja täällä, joten eilen illalla juhlistin hassuttelemalla vapauttani näyttelijänä ja sitä, että oon oppinu niin paljon!

of the things we have learned here. We are showing Hamlet-etudes. 
I’m playing Ophelia and I’m really excited for today. Yey!

 

Tänään on erityinen päivä, sillä meillä on demo perustuen kaikkeen, mitä ollaan täällä Pietarin teatteriakatemiassa opittu. Esitetään Hamlet-etydejä, ja mä oon Ofelia. Oon tosi innoissani tästä päivästä!

Two classic stories

 On both Wednesday and Thursday night I went to The Maly Drama Theatre to see amazing performances. On Wednesday I saw Uncle Vanya which was my favourite shows I’ve seen here so far. On Thursday night I saw The Lord of the Flies which was great physical theatre. Both perfomances were so believable that I forgot I was watching theatre. It felt like watching a movie. Everything was so effortless and real. I heard that the two women acting Yelena and Sonya in Uncle Vanya have both studied at the St. Petersburg State Theatre Arts Academy.

Sekä keskiviikko- että torstai-iltana kävin kattomassa esityksiä teatterissa nimeltä The Maly Drama Theatre. Keskiviikkona näin Vanja-enon, joka oli paras esitys, mitä oon täällä tähän mennessä nähny. Torstaina menin kattomaan Kärpästen herra –kirjasta dramatisoitua näytelmää. Esitys oli erittäin fyysinen. Molemmat tarinat esitettiin niin todenmukaisesti ja sujuvasti, että mä unohdin olevani teatterissa. Tuntui kuin olisin kattonu elokuvaa. Kuulin, että Jelenaa ja Sonjaa näyttelevät naiset ovat molemmat opiskelleet täällä Pietarin teatteriakatemiassa.

Uncle Vanya

At The Maly Drama Theatre there were these miniatures of the sets of these plays. It’s interesting how the set was completely changed for the other show. There are many different plays going on in the same theatre at the same time. One performance can be shown once a week, once a month or once in three months etc. They call this a repertory theatre. One actor can also act in many different plays at the same time easily. This sounds good to me.

Teatterissa oli hienoja pienoismalleja molempien esityksien lavastuksesta. Oli tosi mielenkiintoista nähdä kuinka sama lava muuttui ihan toisennäköiseksi yhdessä päivässä. Täällä Venäjällä saattaa pyöriä useita eri esityksiä samanaikaisesti samassa teatterissa (ja teatterisalissa). Yhtä esitystä saatetaan esittää ainoastaan kerran viikossa, kerran kuukaudessa tai vaikka kerran kolmessa kuukaudessa jne. Tätä systeemiä kutsutaan repertuaari-teatteriksi. Sama näyttelijä voi näytellä samanaikaisesti useissa eri näytelmissä helposti. Kuulostaa tosi kivalta!
